Create host groups

Storage hosts are systems that use storage system LUN resources. A logical unit number (LUN) is an identifier that is used for labeling and designating subsystems of physical or virtual storage.

Prerequisites

See Roles and associated permissions to determine the user roles that can perform this task.

The maximum number of hosts that are allowed in a host group is 64.

About this task

This procedure explains how to create a host group (collection of hosts). For instructions on creating a host, see Create hosts.

To create host groups:

Steps

  1. Select the storage system.
  2. Select Hosts > Hosts .
  3. Click Create > Create Host Group.
  4. Type a Host Group Name.
Host group names must be unique from other hosts or host groups on the storage system and cannot exceed 64 characters. Only alphanumeric characters, underscores ( _ ), and (-) are allowed. Host group names are case-insensitive.
  5. Select the Fibre radio button to filter the available hosts table to display Fibre Channel hosts only. Select the iSCSI radio button to filter the table to display iSCSI hosts only. Select the NVMe/TCP radio button to filter the table to display NVMe/TCP hosts only. The Fibre radio button is selected by default.
  6. Optional: Do one of the following:
    • To create hosts to add to the group, click Create New Host. For instructions on creating hosts, see Create hosts.
    • To add existing hosts to the group:
      • Specify the host by typing its name or by selecting it from the list.
      • To filter the list, type part of the hostname.
      • Repeat this step for each additional host.
      • Click Add.
Repeat these steps for each additional host.
    • To set the host port attributes:
      • Click Set Host Group Flags to open the Set Host/Host Group Flags dialog box.
      • Optional: Select a host whose flag settings you want to copy.
      • Modify any of the attributes, by selecting the corresponding Override option (activating the Enable option) and enable (select) or disable (clear) the flag.
    • Optional: Select Consistent LUNs to ensure that the host LUN values remain consistent across all volumes within each masking view that includes this host. When set, any masking operation involving this host that results in inconsistent LUN values is rejected. When not set, the storage system attempts to keep LUN values consistent, but deviates from consistency when LUN conflicts occur during masking operations.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Do one of the following:
    • Click Run Now to perform the operation now.
    • Expand Run Now and click Add to Job List to add this task to the job list, from which you can schedule or run the task at your convenience. For more information, see Schedule jobs and Preview jobs.
